What goes with Bourbon?
Straight bourbon at 40–45% alcohol contributes ethanol, water and concentrated maturation aromas, rather than the sugar content implied by its sweet smell. Corn-led spirit and new oak commonly suggest vanilla, caramel, toasted wood and warm spice, with variation between bottles. The working form is an unflavoured bourbon, not a sweetened whiskey liqueur or a peated Scotch replacement.

Pairing principles
What pairs well with Bourbon?
Pecan, maple and chocolate connect with bourbon's oak-derived sweet and toasted impressions, while mint and orange provide a brighter aromatic edge. In savoury preparations, use enough salt and moisture to prevent a sweet, woody finish from dominating. Treat the spirit as a concentrated liquid ingredient: its water and alcohol affect dough, emulsions and frozen textures as well as flavour.
