What goes with Golden Syrup?
Golden syrup is a smooth amber cane-sugar syrup containing sucrose and invert sugars. Its mild buttery-caramel impression comes with substantial sweetness and a thick, adhesive consistency. Unlike coarse sugar it brings no crystal crunch, and unlike dark molasses it has comparatively little bitter depth. Its water and dissolved sugar both matter in a flapjack, steamed pudding or confection.

Pairing principles
What pairs well with Golden Syrup?
Rolled oats absorb the syrup-butter mixture and give chew; lemon cuts through its rounded sweetness without adding another heavy aroma. Ginger provides warmth, while apple contributes juice and tartness. Savoury applications benefit from a deliberately measured salty or fermented element. Golden syrup can discourage coarse crystallisation in a sugar confection, but it cannot replace every structural role of granulated sugar.
