What goes with Marmite?
Marmite is a dark, concentrated yeast-extract spread with salt and additional flavouring ingredients; it is not baker’s yeast and cannot raise dough. Its sticky consistency comes with an exceptionally strong savoury impact. Original British Marmite is the reference here. Other yeast extracts, reduced-salt versions and products sold under the same name elsewhere can differ enough to change seasoning and texture.

Pairing principles
What pairs well with Marmite?
Bread, potatoes and oats give a broad, mild surface against which a little Marmite remains clear. Aged cheese and browned beef share its savoury register but increase the risk of an overloaded finish. Tart fruit, pickled walnuts or lemon verbena offer different ways to interrupt that persistence. Coffee works only at restrained concentration, with sweetness or dairy controlling the combined bitterness.
